In recent news, something really awesome happened last night for the whole Finnish Gaming Industry. Last night the local Games Industry in Finland received a special award from Tarja Halonen, the President of the Republic of Finland!
The Internationalization Award is given yearly to the most promising export driven companies and it’s the highest award any industry can receive in Finland.
The Finnish Game Industry employs 1,300 people in Finland and generated a combined turnover of more than EUR 165 million in 2011 alone. Receiving such an award is a huge deal for us in the industry, there’s no higher level or recognition that you can receive in Finland. For most of the last two decades we have been passionately working in the games industry and to finally see this level of recognition from our President is simply breath taking.
Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, presenting the award to Sonja Kangas (Director, IGDA Finland), Miikka Lyytikäinen (Director, Game Developers) and KooPee Hiltunen (Director, Neogames) – chosen to be representatives of the local games industry as a whole.
